In Principle..
Atrium and its Board is committed to developing wider role activity further. Wider role is defined as:
Activity that goes beyond the provision, improvement and management of housing with the aim of improving the economic, social and environmental circumstances of the communities within which RSL’s operate.
In recent years we have been involved in a number of projects in support of this aim. A key example was a programme of environmental improvements works which commenced in November 2005 as part of a multi-funded partnership initiative, including Atrium Homes, Communities Scotland and East Ayrshire Council. The environmental improvements in Stewarton form part of a larger intermediate labour market (ILM) project which has a primary aim of helping unemployed persons back into work.
Atrium under its development programme will endeavour, where possible, to work in partnership with Contractors to encourage training and employment opportunities.
For example, the contract at Macbeth Gardens, New Farm Loch, with McTaggart Construction has supported the ongoing apprenticeship scheme for 5 people in East Ayrshire and we anticipate replicating this on future sites.
